Water softeners work through a process called ion exchange which eliminates calcium and magnesium from the water. Metro Water Filter is always happy to discuss how water softeners work and why this process may be needed for all your home’s water. Comes with Clack’s 5 year parts & electronics warranty. • White deposits in sinks and tubs

What is Hard Water?

Pure water contains nothing more than two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Unfortunately for us, water is seldom pure. In fact, the majority of all the water in the United States is water that is considered hard. Hard water is water that has become contaminated with minerals such as calcium, magnesium, sulfur, manganese, iron, lead, and limestone. Water is considered to be a universal solvent. Given enough time, water dissolves everything it comes into contact with – calcium, magnesium, sulfur, manganese, iron, lead, limestone, etc.

Effects of Hard Water

Hard water leaves behind mineral deposits on virtually everything. Up to 70% more soaps and detergents are needed to get things clean. After shampooing your hair, the mineral deposits left behind leave your hair feeling rough. You may find that the minerals in the water cause your hands to turn red and rough. The minerals are left behind in your freshly laundered clothes making them feel rough. Pipes will become clogged over time as mineral deposits build up. As pipes become clogged, water pressure will be reduced. Mineral deposits will build up in your water heater reducing heating efficiency and shorten its life. Residents of the home may have stomach problems that will not clear up.

Benefits of our Conditioning Filter & Water Softener Systems

Most minerals in the water will be reduced or eliminated, including calcium, magnesium and manganese. Here are some additional benefits of a water softener from Metro Water Filter:

  • Fully automatic operation
  • Self-cleaning
  • Adjustable cleaning cycle
  • Durable and dependable
  • Low maintenance

How do Conditioning Filters and Water Softeners work?

Our Water Softener and Conditioning Filter contains a specially designed media. The hard water enters the top of the unit and flows through the media bed. The media attracts and binds to the minerals so clean, clear water is passed from the filter to your home.

About every 4 days, the filter removes the accumulated minerals that have been trapped inside. This is done by an automatic, self-cleaning cycle called backwashing. The backwash cycle draws a cleaning agent into the filter. The cleaning agent causes the media to release the minerals which are then flushed out of the filter. The filter then thoroughly rinses the media bed, removing any remaining minerals and the cleaning agent. Once the backwash cycle has ended, the filter returns itself to normal operation. The cleaning agent must be checked and replenished periodically (typically every 3-6 months) to maintain proper and efficient operation.

Traditional water softeners are salt based systems with a storage tank that needs to be refilled with salt regularly. Metro Water Filter offers all of the water softener services you need to maintain your clean and soft water. We also offer salt-free water conditioner options that treat the minerals in your water to prevent scale instead of removing the minerals entirely. Our expert team will help you determine which option is best for your based on your daily water usage and how hard your water is.

Feel free to contact Metro Water Filter to discuss water softening options and schedule an onsite consultation.
